About this program
The James Beard Book Awards recognize books within the James Beard Foundation’s media awards, with JBF-owned cycles beginning in 1991.
The James Beard Foundation established its awards in 1990 and first presented them in 1991. Its Book Awards history includes changing categories and designations, so this catalog retains the wording printed for each cycle and separately records normalized labels for browsing.
The Foundation also presents a retrospective lineage reaching back through IACP and the R. T. French Tastemaker Awards. Earlier results can therefore appear in a lineage view, but their original program ownership remains unchanged and they are not counted as pre-1991 James Beard awards.
