The R. T. French Tastemaker Awards were the predecessor to the James Beard Book Awards.
James Beard Foundation materials date the lineage to 1966, when French’s Mustard established the Tastemaker Awards. The first recorded Tastemaker award year in this catalog is 1967.
James Beard Foundation materials retrospectively include Tastemaker results in the Book Awards lineage. This catalog keeps those results under the R. T. French program that owned them; the lineage connection does not relabel them as James Beard awards.
